 Hampta Pass lies at an altitude of 4270 m on the Pir Panjal range in the Himalayas. It is a small corridor between Lahaul's Chandra Valley and Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. The nomenclature of the trek was derived from Hamta Village, located below Sethan village, as part of the trek route.

The time period from mid-June to October is considered the best to visit Hampta Pass. During these months there are rarely any rain showers and the temperature benefits trekking as well. You can expect snowfall during the months of May-June and September-October. The surroundings look stunning blanketed with snow on the Himalayan Peaks. The Hampta Pass trek is special in June because of the snow. The quantity of snow in Hampta Pass during this months and post June as well will make you believe that you’re somewhere in the Arctic Circle. This is one of the main reasons why the months from mid-June to October are chosen for taking on the Hampta Pass trek. After the snow flash in June, the white of the region slowly fades and turns green as July passes. This changes the overall experience of the trek. August is the sunniest of months during the Hampta Pass trek. If you’re not a trekking in the snow enthusiast then you should opt for a trekking slot in the month of August.

It is so because the trekkers will have to make a climb from 6,725 ft above the mean sea level to height of 14,056 ft in a matter of 4 days. The terrain becomes much more difficult to walk on after Balu Ka Ghera as you reach closer to the final point, which is, Hampta Pass. We cross Hampta Pass to reach Shea Goru.
