Hampta Pass Trek

The Hampta Pass trek is one of the most rewarding pass treks in the Himalayas of the Himachal region. The trek weaves all the elements of a good journey including lush green meadows, beautiful forests in Jobra, a river delta near Balu ka Gera and a stunning desert oasis near the campsite at Shea Goru. There is an iconic lake known as the Chandratal Lake which you get to witness by the end of the trek. The Hampta Pass connects Lahaul Chandra Valley to Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh. The Hampta Pass trek notices a varied rise in altitude as we reach Hampta Pass at 14,700 ft above the mean sea level. The climb starts from 6,725 ft at Manali and passes places like Jobra, Chika and Balu ka Gera.

After Balu ka Gera the final ascend to Hampta Pass is a bit of a challenge.  Almost 9 hours of walking on Hampta Pass are required to reach Shea Goru located on the other side of the pass. You follow the trail along the river until the river is finally right below you. The trail is carpeted with varieties of flowers along the border of the river. The ascent is steeper near the final Hampta Pass climb and is comprised of heavy rocks which account for the added difficulty. The view from Hampta Pass is incomparable as the horizon seems stitched with the majestic grace of the Himalayan ranges with their snow clad tops glowing in tones of pink and blue hues as the sun rises and sets. The Hampta Pass trek is a very good choice for beginner’s who have achieved a certain level of fitness or for first timers if they have prepared sincerely well in advance for the trek.
